Overview
Black Pine was designed by its owner, an architect, as a weekend house, and finished in 2018. It is clad in charred cedar and set on piers so the forest floor runs underneath it.
One long room holds the kitchen, the table and a sofa facing the glass wall. Two bedrooms at either end each have their own bath, so two couples can share the house without sharing a door.
A path through the trees leads to a cedar sauna and an outdoor shower. The house is heated by a heat pump and a wood stove, and is warm through the winter.
